People are strange

This song is about alienation and being an outsider.
Jim was depressed when he wrote this song. He was on one of his suicide trips and told his bandmates that he really wanted to die, "I just don't think I can take it anymore". He stayed at the house where two of his bandmates lived in Laurel Canyon. He felt bad and repeated that he wanted to kill himself all night. In the morning they told him "Go watch the sunrise and see if you feel better". He went off alone to watch the sunrise and it changed his mood. It made him write again..and he started to write the lyrics to People are Strange This is his own explanation: "People are strange, things are gonna be messed up. But if you can see the sun come up and everything's cool, then it's all you. It's a projection of yourself."
